What is Z-Wave Security 2 (S2)?

Security 2 (S2) is the latest communication protocol and new industry standard for Z-Wave devices. The protocol effectively makes smart devices faster, more secure, and better-performing than ever. For customers, this means fewer issues and peace of mind. For dealer partners, this means reduced support costs and fewer truck rolls.

To pair to a network, an S2 Z-Wave device shares its encrypted Device Specific Key (DSK) with the security panel during Z-Wave enrollment.

Note: S2 devices are compatible with S0 devices and can be added to existing systems with older Z-Wave devices and panels. However, only communication between S2-enabled devices and panels will utilize the S2 protocol and provide the associated benefits.

Benefits

The S2 communication protocol for Z-Wave devices offers the following benefits:

  • More reliable communication
  • Longer device battery life
  • Encrypted security keys
  • Unique device pin codes for out of band key exchange

Adding S2 compatible devices
