Video camera is not connecting with WPS
There are a few reasons why a video device might fail to configure its Wi-Fi settings through WPS.
Troubleshoot the WPS connection
Verify a complete connection
If the video camera LED turns flashing green but never solid green after a WPS attempt, it's possible that the camera and the router just need to be rebooted in order to complete the process. For more troubleshooting steps for a video device with a blinking green status LED, see Camera LED is blinking green.
Verify Wi-Fi signal range
Wi-Fi range will vary from router to router, and environmental factors (such as the home's construction and/or the presence of other networks) can affect Wi-Fi signal range as well. For more information about the network requirements for video devices, see What are the internet service and bandwidth requirements for Alarm.com video devices?.
WPS setup range may also be shorter than the Wi-Fi range, so try moving the camera closer temporarily for the WPS process.
Verify whether WPS is disabled
Sometimes the WPS feature needs to be enabled within the router itself. If this is the case, it is necessary to log into the router to enable WPS. For router-specific information on this process, consult the router's manual, or contact the manufacturer.
Verify encryption type
WEP and WPA3 encryption types do not support WPS connection.
- WEP is an older, less secure encryption type
- WPA3 is a stronger encryption and authentication protocol than WPA and WPA2
Alternative ways to connect a video device
If the video device does not connect using WPS, there are other methods that might be available depending on the video device. Alternative connection methods include:
- Access Point (AP) mode
- Ethernet
For more information about connecting a video device using any of its available methods, see its installation guide in Video Devices.
