Can Access Control be interfaced with garage door motors or gate controllers?
Compatibility with Alarm.com Access Control hardware depends on the device in use.
Garage door openers
Alarm.com does not support or recommend connecting a garage door motor or opener to Alarm.com Access Control hardware.
Gate controllers
Alarm.com Access Control hardware can be interfaced with a gate controller if the gate controller meets the same requirement as any other compatible lock and can be triggered by relay.
To accomplish this, the gate controller must have a dry contact input that opens or closes the gate when activated.
Note: The door status that is displayed on the Alarm.com customer website and Alarm.com app (i.e., locked or unlocked) is determined by the position of the relay, not the position of an associated sensor.
To complete the installation:
- Connect the normally open input connection of the gate controller to an Alarm.com Access Control controller or expansion module relay as a normally open device.
Note: This is the same connection on the controller or expansion module as a door strike. - When the associated Access Control reader is activated by the user, the controller will send a momentary trigger to the gate controller and activate the gate.
For specific wiring and programming details of the gate controller, refer to the installation manual or manufacturer of the device being connected.
