Create/configure a notification

Notice: For Canadian Dealers, text based notifications to Bell subscribers will be degraded on December 31, 2025, due to changes in how Bell handles messaging. For phones with Bell, it is recommended to set up Push Notifications. For more information about configuring push devices and notifications, see Configure mobile push notification devices. Notifications can be created to notify users of different system activities.

Note: Some carriers may have restrictions that prevent Alarm.com from delivering SMS notifications or limit the ability to attach video clips to messages. The use of video features may also incur data charges by your cellular provider. For more information about SMS limitation see Customer is not receiving notifications.

Create/edit a notification

  1. Log in to the Alarm.com customer website.
  2. Click Notifications.
  3. Click Edit on the notification to edit.
    • If the notification is not created yet, click New Notification and then click to select the type of notification to create (e.g., Alarm, Arming Event, Arming Reminder, Sensor Activity, System Event, Video Callout, etc.).
  4. Enter the desired name for the notification. 
  5. Configure the notification as desired. 
  6. In Recipients, click Add to select which contacts receive the notification. 
  7. Click to select the entries in the Address Book to be notified.
    • If a contact is not listed:
      1. Click New to add a new Address Book entry.
      2. Enter the new contact's information, then click Add Contact
    • To remove recipients, click Delete to remove the desired notification recipient. 
  8. Click Close.
  9. Verify the notification is configured with the desired settings.
  10. Click Save

Note: Notifications can be deleted from the Notifications page by clicking Delete on the notification to be deleted. Some notifications are created by default and cannot be deleted. If the remove icon is not present on a notification, click the toggle switch to turn the notification off. 

  1. Log in to the Alarm.com app.
  2. Tap Menu
  3. Tap Notifications.
  4. Tap Settings.
  5. Tap to select the notification to edit.
    • If the notification is not created yet, tap Add and then tap to select the type of notification to create (e.g., Alarm, Arming Event, Arming Reminder, Sensor Activity, System Event, Video Callout, etc.).
  6. Enter the desired name for the notification. 
  7. Configure the notification as desired. 
  8. In Recipients, tap Add to select which contacts receive the notification. 
  9. Tap to select the entries in the Address Book to be notified, then tap Close
    • If a contact is not listed:
      1. Tap Add Contact to add a new Address Book entry.
      2. Enter the new contact's information, then tap Add Contact
    • To remove recipients, tap Delete to remove the desired notification recipient. 
  10. Verify the notification is configured with the desired settings.
  11. Tap Save.

Note: Notifications can be deleted from the Notifications section by tapping Settings, selecting the desired notification, and then tapping Delete. Some notifications are created by default and cannot be deleted. If the remove icon is not present on a notification, click the toggle switch to turn the notification off.
