Smart Home Skill - Set up Alarm.com with the Amazon Alexa app

Requirements

Note: Using the Alexa Smart Home Skill with Alarm.com is only available in the US. 

In order to use Alarm.com with Amazon Alexa, you must have: 

  • An account powered by Alarm.com.
  • Lights and/or thermostats powered by Alarm.com.
  • An Amazon Alexa device and associated Amazon customer account. These include:
    • Echo
    • Echo Dot
    • Echo Show 
    • Tap 
    • FireTV Voice Remote 

To connect the Alexa Smart Home Skill to an Alarm.com account:

  1. Open the Amazon Alexa app on your mobile device.
  2. Tap Devices icon.png in the lower right corner.
  3. Tap Your Smart Home Skills.

  4. Tap Enable Smart Home Skills.

  5. In the search field, enter Alarm.com.
  6. Tap Alarm.com Smart Home.
  7. Tap Enable.
  8. In the Username and Password fields, enter the Alarm.com account credentials.
  9. Tap Allow.
  10. Tap Done to leave the confirmation screen.

  11. Now that you have turned on the skill, you need to discover your thermostats and lights. There are three ways to do this:
    1. When you tap icn-close.svg on the confirmation screen, a pop-up window will appear. Tap Discover Devices.

    2. Add devices from the home page. For more information, see Add new equipment to Amazon Alexa.
    3. Ask Alexa. Say "Alexa, discover my devices".
       
      Note: If a light or thermostat does not appear, verify the device is plugged in and has an OK status on the Alarm.com customer website.
       
  12. After the discovery is complete, the devices will appear in Your Devices.
