Climax - Panel power requirements
Notice: Installation and maintenance servicing for this device should only be performed by qualified personnel.
Measuring panel voltage is a common troubleshooting step when experiencing odd behavior on a panel. Most often, this step is required when there is a Modem-Panel Comm message, or the panel is not communicating properly with Alarm.com.
Note: Voltage cannot be measured for a Climax using a voltmeter. Verify the power supply has the required voltage.
Climax (Dual-Path and IP variants)
The following table displays what the recommended voltage is for the Climax panel:
| Climax (Dual-Path variants) | Climax (IP only variants) | |
|---|---|---|
| Panel power requirements | 12 VAC | 9 VAC |
| Alarm.com module power requirements | 12 VDC | 9 VDC |
Wire size and maximum length
It is recommended to only use the default power cord that comes with the panel.
Climax Hybrid and Hybrid Lite
The Climax Hybrid and Hybrid Lite can support multiple hardwired device types. However, as the installation becomes more complex, you are more likely to encounter power/amperage limitations. The following provides insight into the power requirements and recommendations for the Hybrid and Hybrid Lite under various installation environments.
Gen 2 Hybrid
Total Power Output: 2 amps
| Wiring Area | Max Amperage Output | Max Voltage Output |
|---|---|---|
| PGM Port | 0.5 amp | 12 V |
| Bell Port | 1 amp | 12 V |
| BUS Port | 1 amp | 12 V |
| Normal Wired Ports (1-16) | 1 amp | 12 V |
As the total power output possible is 2 amps, this means you cannot draw the full amperage from all possible wiring ports at the same time. If an individual port attempts to draw more than 1 amp the panel will shut that port off to protect the panel. If more than 2 amps is drawn from across various wiring ports those ports will be shut off to protect the panel.
Gen 2 Hybrid Lite
Total Power Output: 2 AMP's
| Wiring Area | Max Amperage Output | Max Voltage Output |
|---|---|---|
| PGM Port | 0.5 amp | 12 V |
| BUS Port | 1 amp | 12 V |
| Normal Wired Ports (1-8) | 1 amp | 12 V |
As the total power output possible is 2 amps, this means you cannot draw the full amperage from all possible wiring ports at the same time. If an individual port attempts to draw more than 1 amp the panel will shut that port off to protect the panel. If more than 2 amps is drawn from across various wiring ports those ports will be shut off to protect the panel.
Panel Power Inputs
Important: For panels that use wall power, this section is not relevant. Panels that use wall power have the most stable power output.
The power output of the panel depends on its inputs. The minimum viable power input for panels that accept 18 VAC is 50 VA, which means a transformer that supplies 18 volts will need to supply at least 2.8 amps. Using any external transformers that supply less power than 50 VA will result in inconsistent panel power output.
| Voltage Input | Total power input required | Wired ports 1-8 | Wired ports 8-16 | PGM port | BUS port | Bell port |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 18 V | 50 VA | |||||
| 18 V | 60 VA | |||||
| 18 V | 70 VA | |||||
| 18 V | 80 VA | |||||
| 18 V | 90 VA |
