Create/configure a Connected Car notification

After installing a Car Connector, notifications and rules should be created to take advantage of its features.

Before beginning, verify that the Car Connector is installed and added to the account. For more information, refer to the Car Connector model's installation guide in  Connected Car.

Create notifications for the Car Connector

  1. Log in to the Alarm.com customer website.
  2. Click Notifications.
  3. Click icn-edit.svg next to Car Event Alert, Car Unexpected Movement Alarm, Driver Behavior Alerts, or Trip Started/Ended Alert.
    • If the notification is not created yet, click New Notification and then click Cars and select the specific notification to create
  4. Configure the notification as desired.
    • For Car Event Alert:
      1. Using the When these cars dropdown menu, select the desired cars to be alerted about.
      2. In Report any of the following events, click to select the desired events to be notified about.
        • Low car battery
        • Car Connector is not responding
        • Car Connector is hibernating
        • Car Connector was unplugged
        • Car Connector was plugged in
        • Diagnostic issue was reported
    • For Car Unexpected Movement Alarm:
      1. Using the When unexpected movement is reported by dropdown menu, select the desired cars to be alerted about.
    • For Driver Behavior Alerts:
      1. In When any of these cars, click to select the desired cars.
      2. In Report the following events, click to select the desired events.
        • Excessive speed
        • Sudden acceleration 
        • Hard braking
      3. In During this time frame, select the desired time frame.
        • At all times - A notification is sent whenever this event occurs
        • Only during the following times - A notification is only sent during the selected time frame.
      4. In Notification filtering, click to select the desired parameters.
    • For Trip Started/Ended Alert:
      1. In When these cars, click to select the desired cars.
      2. In Report any of the following events, select the desired events to report (i.e., Trip Started, Trip Ended). 
      3. In During this time frame, select the desired time frame.
        • At all times - A notification is sent whenever this event occurs
        • Only during the following times - A notification is only sent during the selected time frame.
    • For Car Reminder Alert:
      • In Send a reminder for these cars, use the dropdown menu to select the desired cars.
  5. In Recipients, click Add to select which contacts receive the notification. 
  6. Click to select the entries in the Address Book to be notified.
    • If a contact is not listed:
      1. Click New to add a new Address Book entry.
      2. Enter the new contact's information, then click Add Contact
    • To remove recipients, click Delete to remove the desired notification recipient. 
  7. Click Close.
  8. Verify the notification is configured with the desired settings.
  9. Click Save.
  1. Log in to the Alarm.com app.
  2. Tap Menu.
  3. Tap Notifications.
  4. Tap Settings.
  5. TapAdd.
  6. Tap to expand Use A Template.
  7. In Cars, tap to select Car Event Alert, Car Unexpected Movement Alarm, Driver Behavior Alerts, or Trip Started/Ended Alert.
  8. Configure the notification as desired.
    • For Car Event Alert:
      1. Using the When these cars dropdown menu, select the desired cars to be alerted about.
      2. In Report any of the following events, tap to select the desired events to be notified about.
        • Low car battery
        • Car Connector is not responding
        • Car Connector is hibernating
        • Car Connector was unplugged
        • Car Connector was plugged in
        • Diagnostic issue was reported
    • For Car Unexpected Movement Alarm:
      1. Using the When unexpected movement is reported by dropdown menu, select the desired cars to be alerted about.

      1. In When any of these cars, tap to select the desired cars.

        • Only during the following times - A notification is only sent during the selected time frame.
    • For Car Reminder Alert:
      • In Send a reminder for these cars, use the dropdown menu to select the desired cars.
  9. In Recipients, tap Add to select which contacts receive the notification. 
  10. Tap to select the entries in the Address Book to be notified, then tap Close
    • If a contact is not listed:
      1. Tap Add Contact to add a new Address Book entry.
      2. Enter the new contact's information, then tap Add Contact
    • To remove recipients, tap Delete to remove the desired notification recipient. 
  11. Verify the notification is configured with the desired settings.
  12. Tap Save.
