Configure Touch ID or Face ID for iOS

Touch ID and Face ID (if applicable) are alternatives for passcode access to the Alarm.com app on Apple's iOS devices. These are other methods to help with securing access to the Alarm.com app in case the device is lost or stolen. 

Compatibility

Touch ID is compatible with the following iOS devices:

  • iPhone 5s+
  • iPad Air 2+
  • iPad Mini 3+

Note: Face ID is currently available on the iPhone X or later.

To enable Touch ID or Face ID for the Alarm.com app: 

Important: To use Touch ID or Face ID, the Keep me logged in option must be enabled when logging into the account. 

  1. Log in to the Alarm.com app.
  2. Tap Menu.
  3. Tap App Settings.
  4. Tap Touch ID & Passcode (or Face ID & Passcode, if available).
  5. Tap the Touch ID (or Face ID, if available) toggle switch to enable the feature. This uses the Touch ID or Face ID that is already set up in the iOS device's settings. 
    • If Touch ID or Face ID is not currently set up in the iOS device's settings: 
      1. Exit out of the Alarm.com app. 
      2. Open the device's settings application. 
      3. Tap Touch ID & Passcode (or Face ID & Passcode, if available). 
      4. Enter the passcode for the user's iOS device. 
      5. Add the fingerprint for Touch ID or face for Face ID
      6. Navigate back to the Alarm.com app to complete the steps to enable Touch ID or Face ID for Alarm.com. 
  6. Enter in the desired four-digit passcode as a backup if the alternate ID fails, and then re-enter the passcode to verify it.
     
    Note: The passcode can be any four-digit number.
     
  7. Tap OK.
  8. Touch ID or Face ID access is now enabled. Now, any time the Alarm.com app is opened on the device, it prompts to scan the user's finger or face. The user must use one of the fingers that was used to set up Touch ID on the device itself. 

Note: If Touch ID (or Face ID) is disabled through the iOS Settings and the Alarm.com app is opened, the app asks for the four-digit passcode that was set up as the backup.

To disable Touch ID or Face ID for the Alarm.com app:

  1. Log in to the Alarm.com app.
  2. Tap Menu.
  3. Tap App Settings.
  4. Tap Touch ID & Passcode (or Face ID & Passcode, if available).
  5. Tap the Touch ID (or Face ID, if available) toggle switch to disable the feature.
  6. If the user also wants to disable the passcode, tap the Passcode Access toggle switch and then enter the current passcode to disable it.

Frequently asked questions

What should I do if Touch ID or Face ID fails and the user does not remember the passcode?
  1. Tap to open the Alarm.com app.
  2. On the Enter your passcode page, tap Cancel.
  3. Tap Log Out to turn off Passcode Access on the device and return to the standard login page.

Otherwise, after five failed passcode attempts, Alarm.com turns off Touch ID & Passcode Access on the device due to too many incorrect attempts and returns the user to the standard login page.

What should I do if Touch ID or Face ID does not appear as an option on an eligible device?

If Touch ID or Face ID does not appear as an option, it is possible Touch ID or Face ID has been disabled for the Alarm.com Alarm.com app in the iOS settings.

To enable Touch ID or Face ID in the iOS settings:
  1. Exit out of the Alarm.com app. 
  2. Open the device's settings application.
  3. Tap Alarm.com.
  4. Verify Face ID or Touch ID is toggled on.
