SkyBell Doorbell Camera is not ringing

The SkyBell Doorbell Camera can control its own internal speaker as well as a chime inside the building. There are different steps to take depending on which part is not ringing.

If the indoor chime is not ringing correctly:

Verify the door chime type

Determine whether the customer has a digital or mechanical door chime. The steps to resolve the behavior are different for each type of door chime. For information about how to tell the difference between a mechanical versus a digital chime, see SkyBell Doorbell Camera Digital versus Mechanical Door Chimes Video.

If the user has a mechanical door chime

Verify the mechanical plungers in the chime hit their plates normally to ring the chime. A digital doorbell adapter is not needed for a mechanical chime.

If the user has a digital door chime

A digital doorbell adapter is required. Verify that the digital doorbell adapter is installed and is installed correctly. For more information about the digital doorbell adapter, see Digital doorbell adapter - Installation guide.

Verify that the SkyBell Doorbell Camera chime configuration is correct

There are settings to determine what type of chime the Skybell Doorbell Camera is attached to. The settings must be configured to the correct chime type for the chime to sound when the doorbell button is pressed.

Verify Indoor Chime is enabled

There are settings that determine how the SkyBell Doorbell Camera communicates with the door chime. Verify that it is configured for the correct door chime type and that it is configured to make sound.

Verify the original doorbell button works

If the chime is still not ringing after verifying the preceding settings, connect the original doorbell button back to the chime and verify that it still operates properly.

If the doorbell does not ring with the original doorbell button on the door, contact an electrician to verify correct wiring is in place.

If the SkyBell Doorbell Camera itself is not ringing correctly

Verify Outdoor Tone is enabled

Users should verify that the Outside Tone setting is enabled and the SkyBell Doorbell Camera is receiving power. Only the Alarm.com customer website can enable and disable the Outdoor Tone setting, but the volume can be adjusted using either the Alarm.com customer website or the Alarm.com app.

Verify the SkyBell Doorbell Camera is receiving power

If the device's LED is off or only turns on when pressure is applied to the housing, it is likely not receiving reliable power. Verify that the leads are making good contact with the base. The power requirements are as follows:

AC

A SkyBell Doorbell Camera wired to an in-home mechanical or digital doorbell chime requires 16–24 VAC, 10 VA (20 VA if two doorbell cameras are on the circuit). Transformers without a doorbell chime need a 10 Watt, 10 Ohm resistor.

DC

A SkyBell Doorbell Camera requires a DC power supply rated at exactly 12 VDC, 0.5–1 Amps.
