Can the SkyBell Doorbell Camera be used without a chime?
Yes. However, when the SkyBell Doorbell Camera is wired to an AC transformer or a DC adapter with a current rating higher than 0.5A, it requires a 10 Ohm 10 Watt resistor.
It is recommended to install the SkyBell Doorbell Camera in an existing doorbell circuit (i.e., a circuit with a doorbell button, chime, and transformer) to make installation easier and to provide the most usability for the customer.

Power requirements
A SkyBell Doorbell Camera wired without a doorbell chime requires 16–24 VAC, 10 VA (20 VA if two doorbell cameras are on the circuit) and a 10 Watt, 10 Ohm resistor.

Wire the SkyBell Doorbell Camera to a DC power supply
Power requirements
A SkyBell Doorbell Camera requires a DC power supply rated at exactly 12 VDC, 0.5–1 Amps.
Note: If the amperage of the DC adapter is higher than the 0.5A minimum (e.g. a 1 Amp transformer) a 10 Watt, 10 Ohm resistor is required.
To attach the DC adapter to the SkyBell Doorbell Camera:
- Cut off the barrel plug.
- Strip the wires just enough to let them make good contact with the SkyBell Doorbell Camera's terminals.
- Attach the wires to the SkyBell Doorbell Camera terminals — polarity does not matter.
- If required, attach the 10 Watt, 10 Ohm resistor to the circuit.
