Factory reset a Door Control Module

Important: Before factory resetting a Door Control Module, it must be deleted from the customer account. For more information, see Remove a Genie or Overhead Door garage device from a customer account.

  1. Unplug the Door Control Module from the AC power outlet.
  2. Press and hold the Wi-Fi and MFi buttons and plug in the Door Control Module.
  3. Wait for the Wi-Fi LED to begin flashing red, then release the buttons.
  4. The LEDs will flash while the reset is in progress.
  5. When the Wi-Fi LED is solid red, the reset process is complete.

If desired, the Door Control Module can be re-added to an account following the steps in Genie and Overhead Door Integration - Installation Guide.

The Door Position Sensor is unable to connect with the Door Control Module

If the Door Button LED is solid red, the Door Control Module is unable to connect with a paired Door Position Sensor.

  1. Verify that the Door Position Sensor has sufficient battery. To check the Door Position Sensor's battery level, press and release the button.
  2. If the LED does not turn on or is red, replace the battery with a new CR2450 coin cell battery.

The Door Control Module is unable to connect to the internet

Solid red Wi-Fi LED

If the Wi-Fi LED on the Door Control Module is solid red, the Door Control Module is not connected to a Wi-Fi network.

  1. If the Wi-Fi router has been replaced or the password has been changed, the Wi-Fi network settings can be reconfigured by following the steps in Change the Wi-Fi network settings of a Genie Aladdin or OHD Anywhere garage device.
  2. Verify there is sufficient Wi-Fi signal in the garage.
    1. Connect a smartphone to the customer's Wi-Fi network and walk into the garage. Place phone where the door control module will be mounted. The Wi-Fi signal strength at that location must be at least two bars.
    2. The thickness and number of walls, doors or other barriers between the router and garage can affect signal strength.
    3. If there are not at least two bars, try these steps to improve signal strength:
      1. Verify that the Wi-Fi router is out in the open not behind a big TV or in a cabinet.
      2. Move the Wi-Fi router closer to the garage.
      3. Purchase a Wi-Fi extender and reconfigure the Wi-Fi network settings by following the steps in Change the Wi-Fi network settings of a Genie Aladdin or OHD Anywhere garage device.
  3. If the network name was manually entered, verify that the chosen network is 2.4 GHz, not 5 GHz.
  4. Verify that the selected network and password are correct.
Flashing green Wi-Fi LED

If the Wi-Fi LED is flashing green, the Door Control Module is connected to the Wi-Fi router but cannot connect with the internet, or the Door Control Module was factory reset and does not have a valid encryption key.

  1. If the Door Control Module was previously factory reset, delete the Door Control Module from the customer's account following Remove a Genie or Overhead Door garage device from a customer account and re-enroll it following Genie and Overhead Door Integration - Installation Guide
  3. Verify that the customer's Wi-Fi router has a 2.4 GHz network enabled. If the customer has a dual-band router, ensure that the 2.5 GHz and 5 GHz bands are separated.
  4. Try connecting the Door Control Module to the internet in the same room as the router, then move the Door Control Module back to the garage to determine if the Door Control Module keeps a solid connection. The Green LED is solid to indicate it has an internet connection.

Note: If a solid connection cannot be maintained, use a Wi-Fi range extender to boost signal strength in the garage. Wi-Fi range extenders are readily available at most consumer electronics stores.

Remote commands are not opening or closing the garage door

  1. Verify that the Door Control Module is connected to the internet. If the Wi-Fi LED is flashing green or solid red, see The Door Control Module is unable to connect to the internet.
  2. Verify that the wires connecting the Door Control Module with the garage door opener are securely connected.
  3. Verify that the Door Position Sensor has sufficient battery.
    1. To check the Door Position Sensor's battery level, press and release the button.
    2. If the LED does not turn on or is red, replace the battery with a new CR2450 coin cell battery.
  4. Verify that the Door Position Sensor is paired with the Door Control Module by checking the Door Button LEDIf the Door Position Sensor has become unpaired, it can be re-paired using these steps:
    1. Press and hold the Door Button on the Door Control Module until it beeps and the Door Button LED flashes blue
    2. Press and release the Door Button. The Door Button LED will turn off, indicating that the Door Position Sensor has successfully been disconnected from the Door Control Module
    3. Press and hold the Door Button until it beeps and the Door Button LED flashes blue.
      • If the Door Control Module does not beep or the LED does not flash blue, power cycle the Door Control Module and try again.
    4. Press and hold the the button on the Door Position Sensor until its LED begins slowly flashing blue.
      • If the blue LED on the Door Position Sensor begins fast flashing, it is still associated with door button. Press the button on the Door Position Sensor until the Door Position Sensor LED stops fast flashing. It should take about 7 seconds, then try again to press the button on the Door Position Sensor until it starts to slow flash.
      • If the blue LED on the Door Position Sensor does not turn on when you press the button, replace the battery in the Door Position Sensor.
    5. The Door Position Sensor LED will turn off and the Door Button LED will turn solid blue to indicate successful pairing.

The status is not updating when the garage door is opened or closed

  1. Verify that the Door Position Sensor has sufficient battery.
    1. To check the Door Position Sensor's battery level, press and release the button.
    2. If the LED does not turn on or is red, replace the battery with a new CR2450 coin cell battery.
