Create/edit a Video Motion Detection recording rule
AddNote: Video Analytics monitors video streams for people, animals, and vehicles. It only records clips and sends notifications about events you deem important.

A Video Motion Detection recording rule records video when a camera detects motion. For more information about how to configure VMD settings, see How should I configure Video Motion Detection (VMD) settings for a video device?.
Note: The SkyBell Doorbell Camera uses passive infrared (PIR) motion detection instead of Video Motion Detection.
To create a Video Motion Detection recording rule using the Alarm.com customer website:
- Log into the Alarm.com customer website.
- Click Video.
- Click Recording Rules.
- Click Add New Rule.
- Click to select Video Motion Detection (VMD).
- Enter a name for the recording rule.
- Select which camera records when it detects motion.
- Click to select any existing VMD windows using the in these VMD windows dropdown menu (if applicable).
Note: This option is not available for '25, '26, and '36 series cameras. - In During this time frame, select the times when the rule can be triggered.
- In Minimum delay between camera-triggered clip uploads, select the desired minimum time between when the rule can be triggered.
- If desired, click to select any of the options in the At home settings. The options include:
- Do not record when the system is Disarmed.
- Do not record when the system is Armed Stay.
- Do not record when any of the Geo-Devices are inside the Geo-Fence.
- In Video Clip Recipients, click Add to select who should receive notifications.
- Select any entries in the Address book to be notified, or click New to add a new Address Book entry.
- Click Close.
- Verify the recording rule is configured with the desired settings.
- Click Save Rule.
To edit a Video Motion Detection recording rule using the Alarm.com customer website:
- Log into the Alarm.com customer website.
- Click Video.
- Click Recording Rules.
- Click the
for the Video Motion Detection recording rule.
If you do not see the Video Motion Detection recording rule, it has not been created yet.
