Create/edit a Video Motion Detection recording rule

Notice: Beginning February 2023, newly created video accounts will no longer have the option to create Video Motion Detection (VMD) recording rules. This change comes as we confidently move forward with Video Analytics as our premiere motion recording solution.

This change will not affect any accounts created prior to this date. Alarm.com camera models that only support VMD recording will continue to be able to use VMD recording rules after the cutoff date. For assistance with the implementation and troubleshooting of the VMD solution on older accounts, contact your service provider.

A Video Motion Detection recording rule records video when a camera detects motion. For more information about how to configure VMD settings, see How should I configure Video Motion Detection (VMD) settings for a video device?.

Note: The SkyBell Doorbell Camera uses passive infrared (PIR) motion detection instead of Video Motion Detection.
