Create a Doorbell Call notification for the SkyBell Doorbell Camera
The SkyBell Doorbell Camera can trigger a notification when it detects motion or when someone presses the doorbell button.
This is only a notification and will not trigger a recording by itself. For more information about how to create doorbell camera recording rules, see Create/edit a Doorbell Motion recording rule or Create/edit a Doorbell Call recording rule.
Create a Doorbell Call notification
Doorbell Call notifications can be created using the Alarm.com app or Alarm.com customer website.
Note: Button press SMS, Email, and Push notifications will have a 20-second delay before a new notification triggers. This does not impact the doorbell ringing on a wired or wireless chime.
To create a Doorbell Call notification using the Alarm.com app:
- Log into the Alarm.com app.
- Tap

- Tap to select the desired Skybell doorbell camera.
- In Automation, tap Setup Doorbell Call Notifications.
- Tap Add.
- Tap Doorbell Call.
- Name the notification.
- In For the selected devices, tap to select the desired doorbell camera.
- In When the following event occurs, tap to select Motion, Button Pushed, or both.
- In During this time frame, tap to select At all times or Only during the following times to choose a schedule for the doorbell camera to follow.
- In Notification filtering, tap to select the desired filters.
- In Recipients, tap Add.
- In the Address book, tap to select the recipients to notify, or tap New Contact to add a new Address Book recipient.
Note: It is recommended to use a push notification (i.e., recipients with a phone icon next to their description) rather than an email or text notification. Users can answer a doorbell call directly through the push notification. - Verify the notification is configured with the correct settings.
- Tap Save.
To create a Doorbell Call notification using the Alarm.com customer website:
- Log into the Alarm.com customer website.
- Click Notifications.
- Click New Notification.
- Click Doorbell Call.
- Name the notification.
- In For the selected devices, click to select the desired doorbell camera.
- In When the following event occurs, click to select Motion, Button Pushed, or both.
Note: The Alarm.com Video Doorbell (ADC-VDB770) has a different procedure for creating a motion recording rule. For more information, see Create a motion recording rule/notification for the Alarm.com Video Doorbell (ADC-VDB770). - Optional customization:
- In During this time frame, click to select At all times or Only during the following times to choose a schedule for the doorbell camera to follow.
- In Notification filtering, click to select the desired filters.
- In Recipients, click Add.
- In the Address book, click to select the recipients to notify, or click New to add a new Address Book recipient.
Note: It is recommended to use a push notification (i.e., recipients with a phone icon next to their description) rather than an email or text notification. - Verify the notification is configured with the correct settings.
- Click Save.
