How can I set up Touch ID or Face ID for iOS?

Touch ID is an alternative for passcode access to the Alarm.com app. This is another method to help with securing access to the Alarm.com Alarm.com app in case the device is lost or stolen.

Compatibility

Touch ID is compatible with the following iOS devices:

  • iPhone 5s or later
  • iPad Air 2
  • iPad Mini 3 or later

Face ID is compatible with the following iOS devices:

  • iPhone X or later

To enable the Touch ID or Face ID login feature for the Alarm.com app:

  1. Log into the Alarm.com app.
  2. Tap Menu.
  3. Tap App Settings.
  4. Tap Touch ID & Passcode (or Face ID & Passcode, if available).
  5. Tap the Touch ID (or Face ID, if available) toggle switch to enable the feature. This uses the Touch ID or Face ID that is already set up in the iOS device's settings.
    • If Touch ID or Face ID is not currently set up in the iOS device's settings:
      1. Exit out of the Alarm.com app, then tap to open the device's Settings application.
      2. Tap Touch ID & Passcode (or Face ID & Passcode, if available).
      3. Enter the passcode for your iOS device.
      4. Add the fingerprint for Touch ID or face for Face ID, then navigate back to the Alarm.com app to complete the steps to enable Touch ID or Face ID.
  6. Enter in the desired four-digit passcode as a backup if the alternate ID fails, and then re-enter the passcode to verify it.

Note: The passcode can be any four-digit number.

  7. Tap OK.
  8. Touch ID or Face ID access is now enabled, so now any time the Alarm.com app is opened on the device, it prompts to scan your finger or face. You must use one of the fingers that was used to set up Touch ID on the device itself.

Note: If Touch ID (or Face ID) is disabled through the iOS Settings and the Alarm.com app is opened, the Alarm.com app asks for the four-digit passcode that was set up as the backup.

To disable Touch ID or Face ID for Alarm.com app:

  1. Log into the Alarm.com app.
  2. Tap Menu.
  3. Tap App Settings.
  4. Tap Touch ID & Passcode (or Face ID & Passcode, if available).
  5. Tap the Touch ID (or Face ID, if available) toggle switch to disable the feature.
  6. If you also want to disable the passcode, tap the Passcode Access toggle switch and then enter the current passcode to disable it.
If the Touch ID of Face ID fails and you do not remember the passcode:
  1. Tap to open the Alarm.com app.
  2. On the Enter your passcode page, tap Cancel.
  3. Tap Log Out to turn off Passcode Access on the device and return to the standard login page.

Otherwise, after five failed passcode attempts, the Alarm.com app turns off Touch ID & Passcode Access on the device due to too many incorrect attempts and returns to the standard login page.
