Location Insights for Alarm Mode
Location Insights for Alarm Mode displays household members who are at home, nearby, or away when an alarm is triggered. It uses real-time location from enrolled mobile devices and Alarm.com Car Connectors, giving you added insight to make faster, more informed decisions and reduce unnecessary emergency dispatches.
Note: Location sharing is visible only during Alarm Mode, and devices can be opted out at any time.
Requirements
- Alarm.com Customer app version 5.12+ (iOS) or 5.9+ (Android)
- A residential Alarm.com account with security
- At least one location sharing device
- A mobile device with Keep Me Logged In selected and with Places enabled. For more information, see Configure Alarm.com Places.
- An Alarm.com Car Connector (ie, ADC-CC100 and ADC-3035L)

Enable/disable Location Insights for Alarm Mode feature
In order to view Location Insights for Alarm Mode, it must be enabled by the Primary login, or a login with Master permissions.
To enable/disable Location Insights for Alarm Mode feature:
- Log in to the Alarm.com app.
- Tap

- Tap Alarm Mode Settings.
- Tap the toggle to enable or disable the feature.
Enroll individual devices for Location Insights for Alarm Mode
Each user must enable Alarm Mode Location Sharing in order for their device to be displayed in case of an Alarm.
Note: While only Primary/Master logins can enable the feature for the account, all logins with access to Geo-Services (Places) are able to enable their device location for Alarm Mode.
To enroll individual devices for Location Insights for Alarm Mode:
- Log in to the Alarm.com app.
- Tap

- Tap App Settings.
- Tap Location Services.
- Tap Alarm Mode Location Sharing.
- Tap the toggle switch to enable and select location sharing preferences.
View the Alarm Mode Nearby Devices
During an eligible Alarm, view the location of your loved one. For more information on when Alarm Mode is enabled, see Alarm mode.
To view the Alarm Mode Nearby Devices:
- Log in to the Alarm.com app.
- In Nearby Devices, view details about nearby devices.
- Tap
to view device location status (i.e., At Home, Nearby, Away, Location Unknown, and Not Sharing Location).
Frequently asked questions
Is it possible to opt-out of Location Insights for Alarm Mode?
Yes. Primary logins and Master users can toggle Location Insights for Alarm Mode off. For more information, see Enable/disable Location Insights for Alarm Mode feature.
Additionally, all logins can opt out of having their device seen in the case of an Alarm. For more information, see Enroll individual devices for Location Insights for Alarm Mode.
Can users choose to share more or less information about their device's location?
Yes. Users can choose:
- To display only if their device is at home or away
- To share home/away status as well as their distance from the property
- Opt-out and not share location status
How frequently will locations update during an Alarm?
Mobile devices update every minute for the first 10 minutes in the Alarm Mode interface. After 10 minutes, location will no longer be requested from the device.
Connected Car devices show the vehicle's location, distance, when it was last active, and engine on/off status.
If a vehicle is off, it will show the last known location. If there has been no activity for 2 or more weeks, Location Unknown will be displayed.
What order are devices shown in?
Devices are shown in chronological order from newest to oldest, based on when the location data was last received.
Can Location Insights for Alarm Mode be used on a tablet?
While Location Insights for Alarm Mode can be viewed from a tablet, tablet devices are not able to be added as Geo-Devices.
What permissions will my mobile device need to grant to the app in order to use Location Insights for Alarm Mode?
Mobile devices need to share Precise Location. This should be enabled when setting up the feature.
To enable Precise Location for iOS devices:
- Go to the iOS device's settings.
- Tap Apps.
- Tap Alarm.com.
- Tap Location.
- Tap Always for location access and enable Precise Location.
To enable Precise Location for Android devices:
- Go to the Android device's settings.
- Tap Apps.
- Tap Alarm.com.
- Tap Permissions.
- Tap Location.
- Tap Allow all the time and enable Precise Location.
