Lutron Integration
Compatibility
What Lutron solutions are compatible with Alarm.com?
Alarm.com supports the following Lutron solutions:
- Connect Bridge
- Caséta Wireless
- RA2 Select
- RadioRA 3
- RadioRA 2
- Homeworks QS
- Homeworks QSX
Important: An internet connection is required for Lutron Integration. All communication with Lutron devices are routed through a gateway (i.e., Lutron Connect Bridge, Smart Bridge for Caséta Wireless, Repeater for RadioRA 2 and RA2 Select, and Processor for Homeworks QS and Homeworks QSX) that is connected to the internet via an Ethernet connection.
For more information about the compatible Lutron solutions, refer to Which Lutron product lines are compatible?.
What features are supported with the Lutron Integration?
- Plug-in switch and dimmer control
- In-wall switch and dimmer control
- Light schedules
- Individual shade control
Can users that have Lutron create the same rules and schedules as users that have Z-Wave lights?
Yes. They can utilize the same rules and schedules available for Z-Wave lights, including Geo-Fence. Additional options in terms of scenes and rules are available through the Lutron software. One exception is the rule that turns on a light when a Doorbell Camera button is pressed or senses motion, which is currently not offered.
Rules triggered by sensor activity are based on their status according to Alarm.com. This may differ from the sensor's status locally at the panel. For more information, see How do motion sensors report Sensor Activity Monitoring statuses?.
Example: Motion sensors will display as Idle on Alarm.com 30 minutes after the last motion detection. If a rule is set for after 5 minutes of inactivity, the rule will activate after 35 minutes.
Important: Any rules or schedules for Lutron devices must be created separately from the rules and schedules already created for Z-Wave lights. It is required to select Lutron Devices when creating these rules or schedules.
How many Lutron devices can be integrated with Alarm.com?
The Alarm.com platform does not place any limit on the number of Lutron devices that can be integrated as long as the devices are contained within a single Lutron system. The Lutron platform does have a limit of 100 devices.
Can the user see the Lutron devices on the lights screen of their security panel?
Viewing Lutron devices from the panel is only available on Qolsys IQ Panel 4, IQ4 Hub, and IQ4 NS with firmware 4.3.0+. No other panels will be able to view their Lutron devices from the security panel.
Integration with Lutron devices is done through the cloud. Lutron devices communicates with their respective gateway (i.e., Homeworks QS processor, Radio RA2 Repeater, or Caséta Smart Bridge) through their proprietary radio frequency (RF) called Clear Connect, or wired communication (in the case of Homeworks QS or Homeworks QSX). Lutron devices do not communicate locally with the security panel. This means that when connection with the gateway is lost, users will not be able to control the Lutron devices.
What is Clear Connect?
Clear Connect is a Fixed Repeater (Star) Network that uses broadband to connect to Alarm.com. It operates at 434 MHz. Unlike Z-Wave, it does not allow for end devices (e.g., light switches) to extend the range of the network by acting as repeaters. Clear Connect allows for distributed intelligence. This means that lights can be turned on at the same time and scenes to be activated seamlessly.
What is the range of Clear Connect?
The indoor products specs for Clear Connect is:
- 60 feet between repeaters (applicable for RadioRA2, Homeworks QS, and Homeworks QSX where more than one repeater can be on the same network).
- 30 feet between a repeater and any other device.
Note: Repeaters are also known as Smart Bridge for Caséta Wireless systems.
Additional information

Installation
For installation instructions, see Lutron Caséta, RA2 Select, RadioRA 3, and Homeworks QSX - Integration Guide and RadioRA 2 and HomeWorks QS Integration - Installation guide.
Do I need to be a Lutron dealer/installer to configure the integration?
RadioRA® 2, RadioRA® 3, Homeworks® QS, & Homeworks® QSX
No, but the customer does need to have a repeater/processor with the latest firmware. If they do not, they would need to call their Lutron dealer/installer to upgrade their repeaters.
Caséta® Wireless
No. However, it is highly recommended to complete shades training if you are planning to include shades as part of your solution. To configure and set up the system, use Lutron’s app. For more information about Lutron’s app, refer to Lutron's Smart Living.
I’m interested in selling Lutron equipment. What certification do I need?
Caséta® Wireless
No qualification is required for this solution. Setup of the system is done through Lutron’s free app. Purchase the equipment and get started today!
RadioRA® 2 and RadioRA® 3
RadioRA 2 and RadioRA 3 require the use of special programming software. Therefore, training and certification is required to install the system.
Note: Integration of existing RadioRA 2 system into the Alarm.com account does not require training or certification. Qualification is only required for the installation of a new RadioRA 2 system or the reprogramming of an existing RadioRA 2 system.
Homeworks® QS & Homeworks® QSX
Homeworks QS and Homeworks QSX allows for many customizations in their programming, as a result, training is more involved. Qualification is required for purchase of Homeworks QS equipment.
- Application must be completed and approved prior to training. Contact local Lutron Representative for more information.
- 3 to 5 day training at Lutron PA Headquarters.
- Use of mentor account strongly recommended for first project.
Note: Integration of existing Homeworks QS or Homeworks QSX system into an Alarm.com account does not require training or certification. Qualification is only required for the installation of a new Homeworks QS or Homeworks QSX system or the reprogramming of an existing Homeworks QS or Homeworks QSX system.
Where can I find out more information about Lutron training sessions and certification?
A good resource to find out about attending training sessions and/or getting certified with Lutron is LCI Online (www.lutron.com/lcionline).
Where can I find more information about Lutron?
The best place to learn more about Lutron’s offerings is on their website: www.lutron.com.
Where on the Alarm.com customer website and app can Lutron lights and shades be controlled once installed?
Lutron light devices can be controlled from the Lights card, while Lutron shades can be controlled from the Shades card on the Home page on the Alarm.com customer website and Alarm.com app.
Note: The customer must have iOS app version 4.11.1+ or Android app version 4.10.16+ to see a separate card for shades.
Why was a device offline notification sent from Lutron but not from Alarm.com?
Alarm.com avoids excess offline notifications by waiting until a device has been offline for over 15 minutes before sending a notification. The Lutron app may have different notification parameters which can lead to mismatched offline notifications.
