What is Green Button?

Green Button is an industry-led effort that responds to a White House call-to-action to provide consumers with easy-to-understand data about their household energy usage. Green Button data can act as a supplement to users' existing whole-home metering devices or act as the main whole-home metering device, allowing users to gain a full experience with energy management without needing energy monitoring equipment, like a Home Energy Meter.

If an electricity provider supports Green Button, users can display this data via Alarm.com by uploading the utility-provided XML file on a recurring basis. This will enable easy viewing of household energy usage over time in both kilowatt-hours and dollars. If the account has other energy monitoring devices, users can toggle between devices and Green Button data to view energy usage at a device and aggregate level.
