Alarm.com for Apple CarPlay

Alarm.com for Apple CarPlay provides iOS users with easy access to smart security controls on the go. With a simple, driving-friendly interface, customers can stay focused on the road while remaining connected and informed about their properties right from their car display. With just a tap, customers can activate any default or custom Scene for simplified daily routines and seamless whole-property automation. Additionally, customers can open and close supported garage door controllers and receive real-time, critical alerts from anywhere.

  • Alarm.com Alarm.com app iOS version 5.10+
  • Compatible Alarm.com devices

Features

  • Scenes: 
    • Residential users can access Home, Away, and their chosen custom scenes
    • Commercial users can access Open, Close, and their chosen custom scenes
  • Garage Control:
    • Seamlessly open and close eligible garage devices 
       
      Note: Chamberlain does not allow its MyQ devices to be included in Alarm.com’s Apple CarPlay integration. Chamberlain and Liftmaster MyQ garage devices and any Scenes that include one or more MyQ garage devices will be hidden from the CarPlay app. These devices will continue to be available through the Alarm.com app but will not appear on the Apple CarPlay display. However, Z-Wave™, Genie, and other non-Chamberlain garage controllers are available through Apple CarPlay.

    • iOS Critical Alerts can be viewed from Apple CarPlay

To configure Apple CarPlay:

  1. Log in to the Alarm.com Alarm.com app.
  2. Connect the iOS device to the compatible car display using Bluetooth or a USB cable.
    • If the car display supports wireless connection, pair the phone with the car’s Bluetooth for set-up.
    • After the setup, depending on the car, either the phone will automatically connect, or the Apple CarPlay app icon will appear on the car display.
  3. Tap the Alarm.com icon on the Apple CarPlay home screen.

To configure Apple CarPlay settings:

  • Open the Apple CarPlay settings using the vehicle's display or using the Alarm.com Alarm.com app.
    • To open settings from the display:
      • Tap Settings (i.e., Change Devices and Scenes) on the Apple CarPlay interface to seamlessly open the Alarm.com Alarm.com app on the iOS device.
         
        Note: To seamlessly open the configuration page from the CarPlay display, the car must be parked for safety purposes.
         
    • To open settings from the Alarm.com Alarm.com app:
      1. Log in to the Alarm.com app.
      2. Tap More.
      3. Tap App Settings.
      4. Tap CarPlay.
    • Choose the desired Scene and device shortcuts. Tap Add to add, Minus to remove, or More to reorder Scenes. 
       
      Note: For initial setup, Home and Away Scenes, as well as compatible garage doors, appear at the top by default. All other custom Scenes appear under the More Items section by default. 

Frequently asked questions

Can I use Apple CarPlay with multiple systems or Linked Systems?

Yes. Apple CarPlay is available for customers with a multi-system account and Linked Systems. However, customers must switch between accounts using the Alarm.com Alarm.com app. Once complete, the change is reflected on the car display.

Are all alarm.com notifications sent to Apple CarPlay?

No. Only Critical Alerts are sent to Apple CarPlay. Customers must have Critical Alerts enabled. For more information, see Configure Critical Alert notifications.
