Alarm.com Skill - Interact with thermostats through Amazon Alexa

There are three ways to interact with your thermostats: by name, by location, or by general device type.

  • To interact by name, use the exact device name in the command.
  • To interact by location, The location must be in the device name.

Example: The thermostat is named Living Room Thermostat. You could say, "Alexa, ask Alarm.com to turn my AC on in the living room."

  • To interact by general device type, use the words “thermostat”, “therm”, “temperature”, or “temp”.

Example: "Alexa, ask Alarm.com to set the temp to 71 degrees." This will only work if you have one thermostat.

The following list of commands is a small subset of the possible things you can say to your thermostat.

Example commands:

Note: The example thermostat commands are on a thermostat with the name Living Room Thermostat.

  • “Alexa, ask Alarm.com to heat living room thermostat to 75 degrees”
  • “Alexa, ask Alarm.com to set my thermostat to 25 degrees Celsius”

Ask a question

To ask about temperature
  • “Alexa, ask Alarm.com to what is the living room thermostat temperature?”
  • “Alexa, ask Alarm.com to what's the temperature on the living room thermostat?”
  • “Alexa, ask Alarm.com to what's the heat set to in the living room?”
  • “Alexa, ask Alarm.com to what's the temperature?”
  • “Alexa, ask Alarm.com to what is the AC set to?”
To ask about mode
  • “Alexa, ask Alarm.com to what's the mode of the living room thermostat?”
  • “Alexa, ask Alarm.com to is the living room thermostat on?”
  • “Alexa, ask Alarm.com to what mode is my thermostat in?”
  • “Alexa, ask Alarm.com to what's the thermostat mode?”

How does mode impact my commands?

  • AC or Heat - The temperature value will be set or increased/decreased to the commanded value.
  • Auto - Adjusting the temperature while in Auto mode sets either the high or low setpoint. You cannot change both the mode and the setpoint in one command.

Example: "Alexa, ask Alarm.com to Set thermostat auto mode to 85 degrees" does not work. However, "Alexa, ask Alarm.com to Change the thermostat to Auto mode," followed by "Alexa, ask Alarm.com to Set the low setpoint to 68" does work.

  • Off - No adjustment commands will work and you will be prompted with what mode you would like to change to.
