Create and manage Multi-Level Enterprise Groups

Enterprise groups allow property managers to view and manage multiple locations from one login. It is possible to group multiple Enterprise groups together under a parent group to allow access across even more locations.

Requirements

  • An account with a commercial service package
  • One account with the Multi Level Enterprise Security Console service package add-on

Terminology

To help with understanding this page, note the following terms:

  • Enterprise group: Any group of one or more properties created in Alarm.com.
  • Parent group - A group created in Alarm.com that contains multiple groups within it.
  • Subgroup - An Enterprise group contained within a parent group.
  • Standalone group - An Enterprise group not contained within a parent group.
  • Location - A single property.
  • Administrator login - A login with all permissions active.
  • Parent login - A login that has visibility to all Enterprise groups in the parent group.

Creating and managing Enterprise groups

Enterprise setups with multiple groups (i.e., parent group with one or more subgroups) can be created in several ways:

Creating a parent group

Begin with one or multiple standalone groups: This method creates a new parent Enterprise and allows you to select what standalone groups should be added to the new parent.

Creating a subgroup in an existing parent group

Add a new subgroup as part of an existing parent group. Move properties between subgroups.

Merge a standalone group with an existing parent group

Add an existing standalone group with an existing parent group.

Create a parent group using the Alarm.com customer website

Parent groups can be created by adding multiple groups into one higher-level view or by subdividing the current group into easy-to-manage subgroups.

Important: The Multi Level Enterprise Security Console service package add-on must be enabled for customers to be able to create a parent group.

Successful parent group creation

When parent group creation is successful, a list of groups will appear contained within the parent group. These are called subgroups. Expanding the carrot to the left of the group name will expose the list of systems within that subgroup. Subgroups can be created in an existing parent group and properties can be moved between subgroups.

To create a subgroup in an existing parent group:
  1. Log in to the Alarm.com customer website.
  2. Click Manage Groups.
  3. Click Add Subgroup.
  4. Name your subgroup, then click Save.
  5. The new subgroup should be listed under the parent group on the manage groups page.
To move properties between subgroups
  1. Log in to the Alarm.com customer website.
  2. Click Manage Groups.
  3. Expand the subgroup that has the properties you'd like to move.
  4. Click to select all properties to be moved.
  5. Click Move.
  6. Expand the parent group and select the subgroup that will receive these properties.
  7. Click Next.
  8. Using the Determine User Access dropdown, select either Retain Users or Remove Users.
  9. Click Move.

Note: Retain Users will allow group-level users with access to this location to continue to access It after the move is complete. Remove Users will remove all group-level users with access after the move is complete.

  10. The selected properties should now appear underneath the new subgroup.

Move an existing standalone group into an existing parent group

To move an existing standalone group into an existing parent group, the parent group Administrator login must first be granted access to the standalone group.

To grant the parent group Administrator login access to the standalone group:
  1. Log in to the Alarm.com customer website with an Administrator login for the existing standalone group.
  2. Click Users.
  3. Click Manage Logins.
  4. Click Add Group Login.
  5. Click to select Enter login and email of an existing login, and enter the login name and email address of the Administrator login for the parent group.
To add a standalone group to a parent group:
  1. Login to the Alarm.com customer website using the Administrator login for the parent group.
  2. Using the dropdown menu, select the standalone group.
  3. Click Manage Groups.
  4. Click More.
  5. Click Move.
  6. Select the Parent Group. This will grant them access to all of the other subgroups in the parent group.

Important: The login must have access to at least one Parent Group for anything to display.

  7. Click Next.
  8. Select which logins to elevate to Parent Group Logins.
  9. Click Move.
  10. The standalone group will now be a subgroup of the parent group.

Note: The changes will be reflected in Alarm.com almost immediately. There will likely be a delay for this to be reflected in the Partner Portal's Enterprise summary pages.
