Create a parent group
Parent groups allow users with Multi-Level Enterprise Groups to view and access individual Enterprise groups and the locations within each group.

To help with understanding this page, note the following terms:
- Enterprise group - This refers to any group of one or more properties created in Alarm.com.
- Parent group - A group created in Alarm.com that contains multiple groups within it.
- Subgroup - An Enterprise group contained within a Parent group.
- Standalone group - An Enterprise group not contained within a Parent group.
- Location - A single property.
- Administrator login - A login with all permissions active.
- Parent login - A login that has visibility to all Enterprise groups In the Parent group.
Creating a parent group
A parent group can be created as a new group or to create a new layer to an existing group using subgroups. Parent groups can be created using the Alarm.com customer website.
Create a new parent group
To create a new parent group:
- Log into the Alarm.com customer website.
- Click Manage Groups.
- Click + Enterprise Group.
- In the New Enterprise Group field, enter a name for the new parent group.
- Click to select the desired groups that will be added to the parent group.
- Click Save.
- In Elevate Additional Child Group Logins, click to select any other Administrator logins that you want to elevate to parent logins.
- Click Move.
Note: This action can be changed, and logins can always be promoted to the parent group manually later. - The process is complete. The parent group will be listed In the upper-left dropdown, and the list of subgroups will be listed below.
When the parent group creation is successful, a list of subgroups contained within the parent group will appear. Click to expand to the left of the group name to display the list of systems within that subgroup.
Create a parent group using subgroups
Creating a parent group using subgroups will move all of the locations into the new subgroup and elevate all logins, users, and more to the parent group.
To create a parent group using subgroups:
- Log into the Alarm.com customer website using a login for an existing Enterprise group.
- Click Manage Groups.
- To the right of where the parent group icon is, click
. - Click Create Subgroup.
- Name your subgroup, then click Save.
- The new subgroup should be listed under the parent group on the manage groups page.
