What is a High Efficiency Recording Schedule?

High-Efficiency Recording allows customers to increase the number of days that can be recorded to their CSVR by only recording in high definition during periods of activity. Standard definition video will be recorded continuously. Recording continuous standard definition footage also provides an easier playback experience for customers with poor internet connections on the Alarm.com customer website. Simply toggle the HD button on the SVR Timeline when playing back footage.

Compatibility requirements

One of the following compatible cameras must be recording to an Alarm.com 20XXP or 21XXP Pro Series  CSVR:

  • ADC-VC728PF
  • ADC-VC838PF
  • ADC-VC847PF
  • ADC-VC827P
  • ADC-VC727P
  • A supported third-party camera

When using a compatible camera, High-Efficiency Recording can be enabled in the camera's SVR recording rule. For more information about SVR recording rules, see Associate a video device to the 20XXP and 21XXP series CSVRs

People & Vehicle Motion Detection Mode

The 20XXP series can configure People & Vehicle Motion Detection Mode on a maximum of 8 channels. Any additional channels can still use High-Efficiency Recording, but must use Simple Motion Detection Mode. There is no limit to the number of channels when configured to Simple Motion Detection mode. For more information on configuring motion detection modes, see Configure motion detection modes on a 20XXP Pro Series CSVR.

Playing back high-efficiency recordings

  • Dark blue regions on the SVR Timeline Ribbon indicate periods with detected motion.
    • If the camera has High-Efficiency Recording enabled, video recorded at these times will be available in high definition, corresponding with the resolution selected in the recording rule.
  • Light blue regions on the SVR Timeline Ribbon indicate periods with no motion detected.
    • If the camera has High-Efficiency Recording enabled, video recorded at this time will only be available in standard definition.
  • Light grey regions indicate that no footage is available. The recording rule may have been paused, or the camera may have experienced trouble recording. For troubleshooting information, see Camera Unexpectedly Not Recording.

Note: Motion detection recording rules are not the same as Video Analytics recording rules. The colors remain the same when Video Analytics recording rules are triggered, but activity icons are overlaid in small orange circles above the Timeline Ribbon.
