Wireless chimes
Third-party wireless chimes are incompatible.
Identification
- Take the original doorbell button off to check for wires. If the doorbell button plugs into a standard outlet, then it is wireless only and not supported.
Note: Wireless/wired hybrid chimes with typical doorbell leads (i.e., three leads labeled Front, Trans, and Rear) may work when wired.

Intercom systems
Intercom systems are incompatible.
Identification
- Intercom systems typically have large speakers and a complicated wiring scheme as shown in the following image.
- Check for standard Front/Trans/Rear leads. If there are extra leads, it may indicate the chime is an intercom system.

Tube chimes
Tube chimes are incompatible and are also often wireless.
Identification
- Look for tubes attached to the chime that resemble a pipe organ's tubes.
