Video Installation Wizard steps overview

The wizard directs customers through three major steps during the installation process:

Introductory steps
  • Each installation starts with basic instructions to get the video device in place for installation and in the correct mode for connecting to the internet and Alarm.com.
  • The wizard determines for the customer whether the device supports Access Point (AP) mode, which will be the preferred installation procedure. If AP mode is not supported, the customer is seamlessly directed to use Ethernet mode or Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) mode.
  • The customer names their device.

Installation
  • The wizard guides customers through the installation process, which may consist of AP mode, Ethernet mode, or WPS mode depending on the device.
  • For devices that support AP mode, the wizard allows the customer to select a Wi-Fi network to connect to. The customer can choose a network from a list of networks the video device finds, manually type in a network, or copy from another video device already on the account. There is also an option to select a Smart Gateway (ADC-SG130) that may be on the account. After the device is connected, it begins communicating with Alarm.com.
  • For devices that support Ethernet or WPS mode, the customer is presented with a list of possible devices to install.
    • If the customer's phone is on the same network but the device is not on the list of available devices, the customer can review troubleshooting instructions.
    • If the customer's phone is not on the same network, they can find the video device by typing or scanning the MAC address.

Frequently asked questions

Where can the customer's network information be found?

During a device's enrollment process, the customer's network information is required to complete the installation. The customer will likely know the wireless network name and password for their network. It is recommended to verify the credentials they provide by trying to connect to the network using a smartphone or another device before enrolling any wireless equipment (e.g., cameras and garage door hubs).

For more information about how to find a customer's network information, see Find the Wi-Fi name and password for a wireless network.

Why is the device not enrolling?

Trouble with device enrollment can occur for a variety of reasons. For general video device troubleshooting, see Video Device Troubleshooting Guide.
