Do Alarm.com cameras have a default IP address?

Alarm.com cameras do not have a default IP address before installation and require a network with Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) enabled to enroll.

If the network does not have DHCP enabled, there are two options:

  • Turn DHCP on for the installation process, apply a static IP from the camera settings page, and then turn it off again after the camera is installed. For more information about configuring a static IP address, see Configure Alarm.com video devices with a static IP address.
  • Configure a designated router that supports DHCP to allow for the cameras to be enrolled into the network.

Note: Static networks are typically configured with advanced firewalls which need to be open.

Run a connectivity test

After setting up port forwarding for a video device, it is recommended to run a connectivity test to update the public IP and IP works flag immediately.

  1. Log in to the Customer website.
  2. Click Video.
  3. Click Settings.
  4. Select the desired video device.
  5. Click Network.
  6. Click Advanced Network Setup and Testing.
  7. Click Test Remote Access.
