Can Video Motion Detection ignore parts of the scene?

Notice: New accounts created after February 2023 will no longer have the option to create Video Motion Detection (VMD) recording rules. This change comes as we confidently move forward with Video Analytics as our premier motion recording solution.

This change will not affect customer accounts created before February 2023. On older accounts, Alarm.com camera models that support VMD recording on accounts created prior to the cutoff will continue to be able to use VMD recording rules after the cutoff date. Alarm.com CORE Technical Support will continue to assist our partners with the implementation and troubleshooting of the VMD solution on older accounts.

Yes. Alarm.com cameras allow users to define up to three separate windows to monitor for motion, called Video Motion Detection (VMD) windows. Motion outside of these windows is ignored to minimize false recordings. For more information about VMD settings, see Configure Video Motion Detection (VMD) settings for a video device.
