What devices support the ADC-VDB780B?
The Alarm.com Wireless Video Doorbell (ADC-VDB780B) can be enrolled to a customer account using any of the following supported devices:
| Supported device | VDB780B minimum firmware version |
|---|---|
| Alarm.com Smart Chime (ADC-W115C) | Any |
| Alarm.com Smart Gateway (ADC-SG130) | Any |
| IQ Panel 4, IQ4 Hub, or IQ4 NS on software version 4.5.0+* | 2.4.1.092+** |
| IQ WiFi 6 access point | 2.4.1.092+** |
*Important: The VDB780B does not use the IQ Panel 4, IQ Panel 4 Hub, or IQ 4 NS panel as an access point, but works in tandem with it as long as both devices are on the same network. We do not recommend connecting the VDB780B directly to the IQ panels because of this. Instead, connect both devices to the same network to complete the VDB780B installation.
**Important: If the VDB780B is below firmware version 2.4.1.092+, it must first connect to a supported Alarm.com access point (e.g., the W115C or SG130) to update its firmware before it can be enrolled with a supported third-party device.
Battery life considerations
For the best battery performance, pair the VDB780B to the W115C or SG130. Alarm.com access points are configured to maximize the period that the doorbell can be set to low power states, and that extends the overall battery life of the VDB780B.
When the VDB780B is used with an IQ WiFi 6 or third-party access point in conjunction with an IQ Panel 4/Hub/NS, its battery life may be reduced by as much as two-thirds. The actual battery life will vary depending on the environment and the amount of activity the camera needs to process, but we expect customers will benefit from greater than a month of battery life, even when the IQ WiFi 6 or third-party access points support the VDB780B.
For more information about connecting the VDB780B to an access point and installing it to an account, see Alarm.com Wireless Video Doorbell (ADC-VDB780B) - Installation Guide.
Choose the right setup
When determining which access point or panel to use, different customer needs must be considered. Use these example scenarios to compare the access points that would best suit a similar installation.

IQ Panel 4/Hub/NS integration troubleshooting
If the VDB780B is not behaving as expected with the IQ Panel 4/Hub/NS, try the following troubleshooting steps.
- Confirm the IQ Panel 4 proxy rules are active:
- Log in to the Partner Portal.
- Find the customer account.
- Click Equipment.
- Click Panel.
- Verify the VDB780B is listed in Connected Clients.
Note: Prior to the VDB780B being enrolled, the device will not be named in Connected Clients.
- Verify the panel and camera firmware are up to date.
Note: If a firmware update is needed for the panel and the proxy rules for the VDB780B do not appear when the firmware update is complete, delete, factory reset, and reconnect the VDB780B to the network used by the IQ Panel 4. Then reinstall the VDB780B. - Verify the customer's service package supports Video Analytics and a security panel.
- Verify the IPs for the panel and camera are on the same network.
IQ Panel 4/Hub/NS integration frequently asked questions
Does the ADC-VDB780B connect to the IQ Panel 4/Hub/NS's Access Point?

No. The VDB780B will connect directly to the same LAN as the IQ Panel 4/Hub/NS.
Are there any network requirements?

The ADC-VDB780B and IQ Panel 4/Hub/NS must be connected to the same local network. The access point must also enable multicast forwarding to support chiming on the panel.
Is there any guidance on the placement of the doorbell?

Installers should evaluate the NWSS on the VDB780B to ensure an adequate signal is received.
For more information about doorbell placement during installation, see Alarm.com Wireless Video Doorbell (ADC-VDB780B) - Installation Guide.
Why is battery life reduced when using the IQ WiFi 6 or IQ Panel 4/Hub/NS?

Alarm.com access points are configured to maximize the period that its Wi-Fi client's radio can be set to low power states, extending the overall battery life of the VDB780B. When the VDB780B is used with an IQ WiFi 6 or with a third-party access point in conjunction with an IQ Panel 4/Hub/NS, less favorable settings are common. Due to this, the observed battery life of the VDB780B may be reduced by as much as two-thirds.
What are the expected behaviors when the VDB780B is connected to a different access point?

When the VDB780B is connected to an access point that is not the W115C, keep in mind:
- When using the SG130, there will be no chime response.
- When using the IQ WiFi 6 or IQ Panel 4/Hub/NS and a third-party router there will be no chime response, and the VDB780B's battery life will reduce compared to the afforded battery when connected to the W115C and SG130. If battery life is a major concern, we recommend using the W115C.
Can I connect multiple VDB780Bs to the IQ Panel 4/Hub/NS?

Yes. We recommend using no more than two VDB780Bs per installation to ensure the necessary bandwidth is provided to support a camera.
Are there any incompatible routers/access points?

Ubiquiti Mesh routers are known to be incompatible with this feature. This feature will work if the panel and camera are tied to the same note, but an alternative solution would be using the W115C.
Will this feature work if the panel utilizes cellular for communication?

No. This feature will work when broadband communication is established or restored.
Is there a workaround when using an older VDB780B and an IQ Panel 4/Hub/NS?

If an installation requires an older VDB780B, they will need a W115C, SG130, or IQ Panel 4/Hub/NS.
To complete the installation, you will need:
- The camera and panel to be on the most up-to-date firmware
- To remove the access point device from the account, factory reset the VDB780B, and add both back onto the account before trying to use the panel
