Configure the Smart Away thermostat schedule

Overview

The Smart Away feature pauses the existing Z-Wave thermostat schedule when the customer sets their security system to Arm Away or when all eligible Geo-Devices leave the Geo-Fence, and it resumes the schedule when Disarmed. This feature keeps the location's temperature regulated and provides a cost-saving opportunity for customers. The Smart Away feature uses either the Heat or Cool temperature when Away/Closed depending on which mode the system is in.

Example: The thermostat is currently in Cool mode. The customer configured their Away/Closed temperature setting to have a target temperature of 80 degrees. If they enable Smart Away and Arm Away their home or business on a 95-degree day, the A/C will turn on until the temperature lowers to 80 degrees. Once it has reached this target point, the A/C will turn off.

To use Smart Away thermostat schedules, verify the thermostat has the schedule enabled using the Alarm.com customer website or Alarm.com app, then follow the additional instructions below. The following image is how it will appear when the thermostat's schedule icon is clicked on the Alarm.com customer website:

To change Smart Away thermostat schedule settings using the Alarm.com customer website:

1. Log in to the Alarm.com customer website. 
2. Click Automation.
3. Click Schedules.
4. Locate the thermostat schedule to be edited, then click the  icon. 
5. Click Smart Away. The following Smart Away setup window appears: 
   
   
    
6. Click the toggle switch to enable or disable the Smart Away thermostat schedule.
7. Click to select the checkboxes to apply the away situations to the Smart Away thermostat schedule. 
   • Click to select the System is set to Armed Away checkbox to enable the thermostat to use the Away temperature when the panel is armed away. If the panel has multiple partitions, the Smart Away thermostat schedule will be based on the arming status of partition 1.
   • Click to select the All geo-devices are outside checkbox to enable the thermostat to use the Away temperature when the selected Geo-Devices exits the selected Geo-Fence.
     • If this option is selected, use the dropdown menus to specify which Geo-Fence will apply to the schedule.
8. Click Save Schedule.

Alarm.com Places Thermostat Override rules work with Thermostat Schedules to automatically control the temperature in homes or businesses based on user's phone location to help save on energy costs. Thermostat schedules resume as soon as the system is disarmed or when the selected Geo-Devices enter the Geo-Fence. Thermostat Override rules are set up on the Alarm.com customer website.
