Can humidity be controlled only when the HVAC unit is running on heat or cool?

No. There is not currently an option to control humidity based on the thermostat mode or the HVAC unit running. If the customer's humidity system has this requirement, it will not be compatible with the Alarm.com Smart Thermostat.
