What is the Power Plate (ADC-T40-PP) kit, and is it required to use the ADC-T40 Smart Thermostat?
The T40 Thermostat (ADC-T40K-HD and ADC-T40K-HQ) can be installed normally without the Power Plate kit, but with the Power Plate, T40 Thermostats can be installed even if there is no existing C wire present in the bundle at the wall. Only HVAC technicians should make use of the Power Plate, as it requires in-depth knowledge of the HVAC wiring at the HVAC unit.
Requirements
- Power Plate accessories kit
- Access to the HVAC unit
- Understanding of the HVAC unit and the wiring of the thermostat and components
- 24 VAC connection on the HVAC control board or access to the 24 VAC transformer at the HVAC Unit
How it works
With the Power Plate accessories kit, a wire already present in the wire bundle at the wall may be repurposed as a C wire, and power can be supplied to the Power Plate and Display using the R wire and the repurposed C Wire. It is recommended to use W as the repurposed wire, but any wire other than R may be used as long as it is documented.
