How do multiple partitions work with the 2GIG GC3?

Smart Areas is 2GIG's partitioning solutionThe 2GIG GC3 supports up to four Smart Areas (partitions). Once Smart Areas are enabled, zones, keyfobs, keypads, and users can be assigned to Smart Areas (partitions) allowing individual control of each area. 

Compatibility 

  • On panel firmware version below 3.2, the 2GIG GC3 supports one Smart Area (partition). 
  • On panel firmware version 3.2+, the 2GIG GC3 supports up to four Smart Areas (partitions). 

Note: To upgrade to 3.2.0, the panel firmware version must be 3.1.3+. For more information about updating the panel firmware, see Can 2GIG GC3 firmware be upgraded locally? or Remotely upgrade panel firmware.

Configure Smart Area names

The Smart Area (partition) names can be updated locally using the panel or remotely using the Alarm.com customer website.

To configure Smart Area names using the panel: 
  1. Tap System Settings
  2. Enter the master or installer code. 
  3. Tap Smart Areas Settings
  4. Tap Edit to update the selected Smart Area's name.
  5. Enter the desired name.
  6. Tap Done. Continue to update other Smart Areas if desired. 

Assign users to Smart Areas

System user codes can be assigned to specific Smart Areas (partitions) locally using the panel, or remotely using the Alarm.com customer website or Alarm.com app.

To assign users to Smart Areas using the panel: 
  1. Tap System Settings
  2. Enter the master or installer code. 
  3. Tap Users
  4. Tap Edit to update the desired user
  5. Flick to Smart Areas.
  6. In Smart Areas, select the desired Smart Areas for the user to access.
  7. Exit the settings. Changes are automatically saved.
