Enroll or delete a Yale Assure Touchscreen Deadbolt (YRD256)

Z-Wave locks use encrypted communication over Z-Wave, meaning their communication is completely secure. With this added security, the lock and the controller must use additional Z-Wave commands to enroll and communicate. With each additional command sent, the probability of a communication breakdown increases.

For information about hardware installation, see Yale Assure Touchscreen Deadbolt (YRD256) - Installation Guide.

Important: Do not add or delete user codes locally to or from the lock. Only use the Alarm.com app or Alarm.com customer website for user code management.

To mitigate the chances of an enrollment failure for locks, complete the following during installation.

To enroll a Yale Assure Touchscreen Deadbolt (YRD256) into a Z-Wave network:

As a SmartStart device (700 series only):

It is recommended to enroll this device as a SmartStart device to eliminate the need to put Z-Wave controllers into Add Mode or to trigger devices (as is the case when enrolling non-SmartStart S2 devices).

For information about SmartStart compatibility and the enrollment process, see Add or remove a Z-Wave SmartStart-enabled device.

As an S2 device (700 series only):

If your Z-Wave controller is not SmartStart-compatible, it is recommended to enroll this device as an S2 device for enhanced security and encryption features.

For information about this process, see Add an S2-encrypted Z-Wave Device.

As an S0 device:

If the lock does not have a 700 series Z-Wave module, or the Z-Wave controller is not SmartStart or S2-compatible, this device can be enrolled in the traditional way as an S0 device.

  1. Begin with the lock within 6 feet of the panel or module.
  2. Place the panel into Add Mode.
  3. Enter the master code, followed by a press of the gear button [⚙].
  4. Press [7], followed by the gear button [⚙].
  5. Press [1], followed by the gear button [⚙].
  6. Wait 2 minutes before locally operating the device.
  7. Verify that the lock appears on the Alarm.com customer website and responds to lock/unlock commands.

To delete a Yale Assure Touchscreen Deadbolt (YRD256) from a Z-Wave network:

  1. Place the panel into Delete Mode.
  2. Enter the master code, followed by a press of the gear button [⚙].
  3. Press [7], followed by the gear button [⚙].
  4. Press [3], followed by the gear button [⚙].
