Status updates for the Linear Z-Wave Garage Controller are not coming through when the garage door is opened/closed
There should be status updates for open/close events in the activity section found either on the Alarm.com customer website or Alarm.com app. For more information, see View the system activity history.
If status updates are not coming through when the garage door is opened/closed:
- Verify that the tilt sensor is attached to the garage door.
- As per device install instructions, the tilt sensor should be installed on the top panel/section of the garage door with the white arrow on its side pointing up when the door is closed.
- Range should not be much of an issue as long as the sensor is in the garage with the Linear Z-Wave Garage Controller device.
- Verify that the tilt sensor is the one that came with the Linear Z-Wave Garage Controller device in question.
- If unsure, match the serial number for the sensor with the one on the Linear Z-Wave Garage Controller device. The serial numbers are labeled as S/N and are located on a small sticker on the sensor (under battery cover) and the back of the Linear Z-Wave Garage Controller device near the other model/version information.
- If the serial numbers do not match, use a new Linear Z-Wave Garage Controller device and the new sensor that comes with it.
- Attempt a re-sync of the tilt sensor with the Linear Z-Wave Garage Controller.
- Press and hold the link button on the Linear Z-Wave Garage Controller for 7-8 seconds until a short beep is heard.
- Open/close the garage door opener locally (with remote/wall button) so that the sensor moves. If it re-syncs, you should hear an additional beep.
- Delete, factory reset, and re-add the device.
- Delete the device.
- A factory reset clears the network information and can be performed by quickly pressing the Z-Wave Link button on the Linear Z-Wave Garage Controller five times in a row. There is a short beep, several double red flashes, and finally a long beep to indicate successful reset.
Note: The factory reset process does not remove the device from the panel/module. - Re-add the device.
- Test or replace the tilt sensor battery. For more information, see Which type of battery does the Linear Z-Wave Garage Controller tilt sensor use?.
Note: The tilt sensor will report a tamper whenever the back plate is opened, which can cause incorrect or unknown door statuses. To clear the tamper, the back plate must be put back on with the arrows facing the same direction. - If all of the above steps do not resolve the issue, then Linear Z-Wave Garage Controller device replacement may be necessary.
