LiftMaster MyQ Enabled Garage Door (MyQ Opener + Internet Gateway) - Installation Guide

This article contains installation instructions for the Liftmaster MyQ Internet Gateway(828LM), for remote garage control.

Connect LiftMaster Internet Gateway
  1. Connect Ethernet cable to the router and the internet gateway.
  2. Connect power to the internet gateway.
  3. When the internet gateway connects to the internet, the green light stops blinking and lights solid. If the green light does not light solid, check the power, router, and internet connections to the internet gateway.
  4. Write down the serial number on the gateway to be used in the registration process

Internet Gateway LED pattern meanings
LED color Description

LED blinking green.svg

Green Flashing

 The Gateway has an IP address from the router, but is not connected to the internet.

LED solid green.svg

Green Solid

 The Gateway has an active internet connection. Infrequent blinking indicates data traffic.

LED solid blue.svg

Blue Solid

 The Gateway has learned at least one MyQ device. The blue light infrequently blinks to indicate communication in progress with MyQ device.

Yellow Solid

 The Gateway is actively waiting to learn a MyQ device. This timeouts after three minutes if a device is not learned.

Green and Blue Alternating

 The Gateway blinks four times to indicate a correct power connection and reset of the Gateway.
Register or Add the Internet Gateway

Note: The Internet Gateway cannot be registered through Alarm.com if it is already registered through MyQ/LiftMaster. The Internet Gateway must be removed from the user's MyQ account before attempting to register it to Alarm.com.

The Internet Gateway can be registered with Alarm.com using the steps below:

  1. Log in to the Alarm.com customer website.
  2. Click Settings. 
  3. Click Manage Devices.
  4. Click Add Device. 
  5. Click Garage Door.
  6. Click MyQ Internet Gateway.
  7. Click Next.
  8. Click Register Gateway.
  9. In the Serial Number field, enter the serial number of the Internet Gateway, and then click Continue.

  10. Click Add New Device to put the Internet Gateway into learn mode. This puts the Internet Gateway into learn mode so that MyQ-Enabled Garage Door can be added. A yellow light turns on at the Internet Gateway to indicate that it's in learn mode.

  11. After the yellow light is on at the Internet Gateway, follow the instructions on the installation wizard to add the opener. The LED on the gateway will turn blue once the device is enrolled.

  12. Return to the Garage page and click Check for New Devices.
  13. Repeat steps seven through nine if initially unsuccessful. Verify the garage door is compatible.

Troubleshooting

  • If yellow and red LEDs are blinking slowly, the control panel is not compatible with your garage door opener.
  • If the yellow and red LEDs are blinking quickly, the control panel is charging, and may take up to five minutes to become operational.
  • MyQ gateway Learn Mode is active for three minutes during which time devices associated with that gateway will be inoperable.
