Do the Access Control door controllers provide power for locks and inputs?
The relay and input terminals on the Alarm.com Access Control controllers or expansions do not provide power for devices.
For locks
The relays provided for controlling door lock mechanisms are Form-C contact relays. Each relay has a Common pole (C), a Normally Open pole (NO), and a Normally Closed pole (NC). To provide power for a lock, it is required to wire a positive DC power source to the desired Common (C) terminal as demonstrated in the following image.
For more information about each relay's power rating, see Access Control locking hardware wiring guide.
For inputs:
Depending on which board is being used, the input terminals will be labeled IN or I plus the corresponding input number. These input terminals do not provide power for input devices. These terminals are used to accept a two-wire connection from either a door sensor or REX device.
When using a REX device as an input, note the type of circuit the REX device is outputting. This can be either a Normally Open (NO) or a Normally Closed (NC) circuit. When in doubt about the circuit type, refer to the manufacturer's guide for the REX or door sensor devices.
