Can the RS-485 signal ground and power ground share the same conductor?

There should not be a problem with an expansion's RS-485 signal ground and power ground sharing the same wire, as long they are connecting the same devices. 

On the expansion boards, separate terminals are provided for convenience in the event the power source differs between the controller and expansions. Both ground terminals offer the same potential.
