What is an Edge Design for an Access Control system?

An Edge Design Access Control system consists of having all components of an Access Control door wired to the host controller above or near the door itself. From there, the host controller located at each door is wired back to a central network switch as shown.

The Edge Design only requires connecting a single Cat5 cable for each host controller back to the network switch location. This design also allows the controller to be powered using PoE and in turn provides power for a door's peripherals using the auxiliary VO terminal.

Caution: If powering a door's peripherals from the auxiliary VO terminal, verify it does not exceed 650mA @12V.
