Which Access Control readers and keypads are compatible?

Alarm.com Access Control Readers (ADC-AC-ET10, ADC-AC-ET20, and ADC-AC-ET25) offer a modern aesthetic and a state-of-the-art feature set, including Proximity (125 kHz), MIFARE DESFire (13.56MHz), NFC, and Bluetooth. All readers are fully OSDP compliant and are enabled for OSDP Secure Channel. 

Alarm.com Access Control readers also exclusively support mobile access credentials, allowing businesses to support their existing credentials while transitioning to encrypted smart credentials for improved security. For more information, see Access Control Mobile Credentials.

Third-party compatibility

In order for a third-party reader or keypad to be compatible with Alarm.com's Access Control solution, they must communicate using the standard Wiegand or OSDP protocol.

In some instances, readers or keypads may use a proprietary communication method by default but can be configured to use the standard Wiegand or OSDP protocol. If the device is capable of switching protocols, this information can often be found in the device's manual or by contacting the manufacturer.

Readers

In addition to the need to communicate using the standard Wiegand or OSDP protocol, the card format used needs to be compatible with the reader itself and be a supported format. For a list of supported formats, see Which Access Control card formats does Alarm.com support?.

Keypads

In order for a keypad to be compatible, it must communicate using the standard Wiegand or OSDP protocol.

Important: By default, the facility code format is set to 0 for keypads on the Partner Portal and Partner MobileTech app. The keypad can be adjusted to 0 (if available), or the default facility code can be adjusted to match the keypad's facility code settings.

The following keypad PIN code transmission protocols are not compatible:

  • 8-bit burst
  • XSF
  • Paxton

Readers and keypads that may require additional local programming:
  • Rosslare Keypads
    • Both pin and card transmission formats need to be manually set to use Wiegand 26-bit.
  • Linear IEI ProxPad
    • The keypad by default transmits keypad entries using a facility code of 1.

Incompatible:

  • Bar code readers
  • QR code scanners
  • License plate scanners
  • Biometric readers or scanners
     
    Note: Regardless of whether or not the biometric device uses the Wiegand or OSDP protocol, Alarm.com does not support the installation or usage of these devices at this time.
     
  • Bluetooth readers (specifically the Bluetooth function is not supported)
     
    Note: The only readers that support the Bluetooth function are Alarm.com Access Control Readers (ADC-AC-ET10, ADC-AC-ET20, and ADC-AC-ET25).
     
  • Paxton brand readers
  • Linear i212, i232, i242, 212iLW, 242iLW
  • Kantech keypads
    • These keypads use an 8-bit burst transmission method which is incompatible
  • ZKTeco keypads
    • These keypads use an 8-bit burst transmission method which is incompatible
  • HID pivCLASS readers
  • Rosslare AY-K12
  • Gallagher readers
    • These keypads use the HBUS protocol which is incompatible
